Mary Bubbles “Kids to Kamp”
Mary “Bubbles” Kids to Kamp Fund was established to honor the life of Mary Condit Hill. Mary was a beautiful woman and a special friend to many. Derby week 2014 at the age of 53, Mary lost her life to cancer. Throughout her battle she lived every day as she always did with passion, positive attitude and enthusiasm. Although Mary never had children of her own she had a special bond and love for kids, as kids did for her.
“Bubbles” was a nickname she picked up many years ago as there were several “Mary’s” in the family circle, so everyone knew which one was Mary Bubbles. Over the years she found and used many resources to find various types of bubble blowers to entertain the kids. It seems as if bubbles reflect the innocents of kids, as they are always excited and fascinated by them.
Mary Hill was known to many on the backside of Churchill Downs as she accompanied her husband, Mickey Ballew. She enjoyed the beautiful horses and touched many lives while hosting and entertaining family and friends on the backside. After Mary’s passing, Mickey established a fund in her honor to benefit underprivileged children of the race track community. Jessica Singleton, KRTC's Director of Women's & Children's Ministries, is the point person for these racing community efforts of “Kids to Kamp.”
Collaborating with the Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy, the mission of Mary Bubbles “Kids to Kamp” Fund is to identify and choose a number of kids each year to send to summer camp. The goal is to help these kids grow, develop and dream of a brighter future through spiritual guidance, character building and encourage a sense of personal pride.
