Close Up: An Evening With Triple Crown Winners Mike Smith and Elliott Walden

Louisville, KY – Two of the most recognizable names in thoroughbred horse racing—Mike Smith and Elliott Walden—will headline the annual “Race for Grace” dinner on Monday, April 29, on Millionaires Row, at historic Churchill Downs.

Mike was the jockey of 2018’s Triple Crown winner and “Horse of the Year”—Justify. He will be interviewed at the event by Elliott, who is President/CEO and Racing Manager of WinStar Farms, the thoroughbred racing and breeding farm that is Justify’s major owner. Mike will share about his extraordinary Triple Crown experience and how his Christian faith has served to keep him grounded during his successful career as a jockey.

The dinner event, sponsored by the Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy, supports the ministry’s activities for track workers and their families at Churchill Downs, at four other thoroughbred tracks in Kentucky and Ohio, and at additional training centers in the area.

Returning as emcee for this year’s event is Caton Bredar, an award-winning journalist with over 30 years of print, radio and television experience that has included serving as a commentator and reporter for horseracing radio and TV networks.

Other special guests for the evening will include Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day, along with horse owners, trainers, jockeys and others connected to the thoroughbred horse racing industry. The event will also include live and silent auctions of unique horseracing memorabilia, sports tickets and other items of interest. Dress is business casual.

Tickets are $150 per person, and tables for eight are $1,100. Various levels of sponsorship are also available and support the services that the non-profit ministry is able to provide to track workers.
