15th Annual “Race for Grace”

Two of the most recognizable names in thoroughbred horse racing – Pat Day and Elliott Walden – will share their mutual story at the 15th annual Race for Grace on Monday, May 1st. Thoroughbred racing brought these two men together as teammates and competitors on any given race day, but it was a much deeper passion that led them to a brotherhood and a higher, common goal.

At this year’s annual fundraising dinner, Pat and Elliott will share how the idea for a full-time backside ministry at Churchill Downs first took root in 2002, and today has grown into a unified service effort that includes not only Churchill Downs, but also four other thoroughbred tracks in Kentucky and Ohio, as well as additional training centers in the region.

Both men are a part of Kentucky Derby history. Pat won the Kentucky Derby in 1992 aboard Lil E. Tee and holds the record for the most “wins” at Churchill Downs. Elliott is a third generation horseman and is presently President/CEO and Racing Manager of WinStar Farm, located near Versailles, Kentucky. One of the farm’s most notable horses, Super Saver, won the Kentucky Derby in 2010.
